Economical analysis of hydro- and aquaponic systems

In hydro- and aquaponic systems, plants and fish are grown in a closed-loop artificial system. Numerous studies and publications have shown a significant reduction of water, fertiliser and pesticide consumption as well as higher yield densities compared to traditional agriculture. On the other hand, the required capital and the energy demand are significantly higher. The aim of the work is to economically evaluate different hydro- and aquaponic systems (evaluation of the total costs) and compare it to traditional agricultural cultivation. Objective:
  • Carrying out a literature review of different hydroponics and aquaponics
  • Estimation of the CAPEX and OPEX of different systems
  • Performing economic analysis and comparison of the different systems
PS: the number and scope of the objectives will be depending on the study (Bachelor or Master Thesis)
